Tenerife’s ports had more than three million passengers between January and July

Tenerife’s ports exceeded three million passengers between January and July, of which 2.8 million were ferry passengers and 313,000 were on cruise ships, according to data released by the Port Authorities. These figures are only 320,000 less than the same period in 2019 when almost 3.5 million passengers passed through the island's ports.

Julys figures of 577,850 people, were the first month since the pandemic that was higher than 2019, which had 549,357 passengers, showing an upward trend.

As well as the number of passengers, there were 945,648 vehicles also moved, which is 145,000 more than from January to July 2019.

Regarding freight, the port authority’s data shows that this has increased by 11.3% so far in 2022 compared to 2021, with 6.7 million tons of merchandise passing through the ports.

A large part of this arrives in containers, which translates into an improvement in the said index compared to 2021 of up to 6.15%, with more than two million tons handled in this modality. This record also already exceeds 2019 figures, by 269,000 tons.

Also, the number of containers grew, with 154,640 units from January to July this year, which is 20,259 units more than from January to July 2019.
