Police in Tenerife have arrested a man who was working as a lifeguard at a public swimming pool in Los Cristianos, despite being banned from any profession involving contact with minors due to previous convictions for sexually abusing children.
The man was sentenced in 2022 for four separate offences of sexually abusing minors under the age of 16.
As part of his sentence, he was not allowed to work in any role involving regular and direct contact with children or teenagers. This ban was still in force.
However, authorities discovered he had been employed at the Jesús Domínguez Grillo municipal pool in Los Cristianos, where swimming lessons and summer camps for children are currently taking place.
According to police, the man had faked a criminal record certificate and submitted false documents claiming to have completed training placements at a sports centre, which were never actually carried out.
Thanks to the investigation by the National Police, he was caught while on duty at the facility and immediately taken into custody.
