AEMET and the Ministry of Health activated orange and yellow warnings for high temperatures for today (Friday), but a compact band of cloud changed that and has brought some much needed rain to the island that residents have never been so happy to see following several weeks of heatwaves and ten days of forest fire.
At around 4:00pm this afternoon, Meteo Tenerife posted about the band of clouds and the fact that it could rain, which no one was expecting, in Tenerife and La Gomera, but it has also fallen in La Palma, El Hierro, and Gran Canaria.
Shortly after this, thousands of residents took to Facebook and Twitter posting photos and videos expressing their delight at, not only a reprise in the heat but also some help to extinguish the fire.
Although many tourists may not be happy, don’t worry the rain won’t be around for long, but everyone must agree… the island really needed this!
