Tenerife flight diverted due to ‘disruptive’ passenger and failed landing attempts

A Jet2 holiday flight from Stansted to Tenerife South was forced to divert to Gran Canaria yesterday (Thursday), after the crew reported the presence of a "highly disruptive" passenger on board, and after two failed landings at the Reina Sofia airport.

According to Air Traffic Controllers, who reported the incident on X (formerly Twitter), police were waiting for flight LS1663 to land at Tenerife South to remove the problem passenger from the plane, but due to strong shear winds it had two failed attempts at landing so was diverted.

As a result, the decision was made to divert to Gran Canaria, where the plane landed without further incident. Authorities were prepared, and police met the disruptive passenger upon arrival, who will be immediately sent back to the UK.

The quick coordination of air traffic controllers was crucial in ensuring a safe landing, prioritising the manoeuvre to minimise risk as much as possible. Incidents involving disruptive passengers remain a constant challenge for airline crews and passengers alike.
