Tenerife South Airport records the highest temperature in Spain

Heat, heat, and more heat combined with a calima from the Sahara are what the Canary Islands are experiencing right now, and the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) are not foreseeing any changes in the next 10 days. In fact, they have warned that temperatures will rise even higher today as the heat continues unabated.

Autumn is non-existent as the islands are experiencing only the tenth heatwave in the month of October since records began, something that is being put down to global warming by meteorological experts.

Yesterday, Tenerife South Airport recorded the highest temperature in the whole of Spain, reaching 38.3 degrees Celsius at 1:00pm, surpassing even the previous day's maximum temperature in Tasarte, La Aldea de San Nicolás of 37.6°C. Incidentally, the town of Tasarte on the island of Gran Canaria recorded the second-highest temperature in the country on Friday, with 38.1°C.

Sabinosa, in the municipality of La Frontera on the island of El Hierro, reached 37.6 degrees, while Arico (Tenerife) and San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Gran Canaria) recorded 35.8 degrees.

YELLOW WEATHER WARNINGS:
All the islands, except La Palma, will be under a yellow warning today due to high temperatures between 10:00am and 7:00pm. In addition, AEMET has issued an alert for haze across the entire Archipelago. Temperatures will once again exceed 36 degrees in the south, west, and inland areas of Tenerife, as well as in the north of Gran Canaria.

No changes are expected for tomorrow (Sunday) as the same heat alerts are repeated on all the islands, except La Palma, and on Monday, more of the same.
