The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has confirmed that people arriving in England from abroad will no longer have to take Covid tests if they have been fully vaccinated, and that the further relaxation of the travel rules was designed to show that the country was open to travellers and business.
At this stage, he hasn’t confirmed when the rules will change, but the Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, is set to make a statement later on today (Monday) in the House of Commons outlining the rule changes. Currently, vaccinated travellers need to do a lateral flow test within two days of arriving.
Previously, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have followed England's lead, but at the moment they haven’t announced any changes, and they are for them to decide.
Boris Johnson said: “although people have to continue to be cautious, you can see the figures are starting to get better. What we're doing with travel, is to show that this country is open for business and open for travellers, you will see changes so that people arriving no longer have to take tests if they have been double vaccinated," he added.
