The president of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, has assured today (Thursday) that the elimination of restrictions for British minors to enter the Canary Islands is “imminent”.
Earlier today he said: “This matter will be resolved immediately. Between today and tomorrow, the end of the restrictions for travellers from the UK will be announced, something that three ministries (Health, Tourism, and Foreign Affairs) are discussing right now.”
Torres said that the data is heading in the right direction, and the fact that masks outdoors have been scrapped from today is a big positive, although he reminded that they must be worn in indoor spaces as before.
In addition, he indicated that this afternoon the Governing Council of the Canary Islands is also going to eliminate some restrictions "because things are getting much better." He added, “The pressure on the health service is improving, so the logical thing is to update the alert levels accordingly and lower the level of some of the islands”.
Finally, questioned about whether there is any response from Health regarding accounting for the deaths of people 'with' or 'by' coronavirus, Torres explained that for now, together with other Autonomous Communities, homogenization has been requested to account for deaths, recalling that the Canary Islands maintain the criteria of the Public Health Committee.
