The Spanish Met Office (AEMET) are forecasting mostly clear skies and cooler temperatures across the Canary Islands today, Sunday, with some cloud in inland areas of the mountainous islands during the afternoon.
In Gran Canaria, cloudy intervals may appear in inland areas first thing, while in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, cloud cover is expected in the east and north of the islands, respectively, towards the end of the day.
Drop in Temperatures and Coastal Pre-Alert
AEMET has warned of a drop in temperatures, with the most noticeable decreases expected in the northern midlands and highlands of Gran Canaria. However, temperatures at Mount Teide could see a slight increase. Daytime highs will reach around 20°C across the islands, while the lowest temperatures will be around 10°C in El Hierro.
Winds will blow moderately from the northeast, with stronger gusts expected along the southeast and northwest slopes of Gran Canaria during the middle of the day. Elsewhere, the wind is expected to subside by the afternoon, with sea breezes prevailing in the western islands.
At sea, variable winds (force 1 to 3) will strengthen from the north or northeast (force 4 to 6), leading to rougher sea conditions, with waves increasing from ripples to moderate swell. A northwest swell of 2 to 3 metres is expected along the northern coasts of the archipelago.
