Spring Hotels has donated €5,150 to the families featured in the documentary “Cero Cuatro, del infierno al cielo” (“Zero Four, From Heaven to Hell”), turning the project’s success into practical assistance.

The cheque was presented on Wednesday at the Hotel Bitácora in Playa Las Americas, with the funds coming from the sale of the documentary’s broadcast rights to Televisión Canaria and its participation in international film festivals.

From awareness project to real support

The documentary was originally created to shed light on the often unseen reality faced by families living with rare diseases. From the outset, Spring Hotels committed to ensuring the project would not only raise awareness but also generate tangible help.

The €5,150 raised will now be distributed among the participating families to help cover the costs of treatments, therapies and specialised care required by the children.

Miguel Villarroya, CEO of Spring Hotels, said the initiative reflects the company’s wider role within the community: “Our mission as a Canarian company goes beyond hospitality; we see our work as an active part of the wellbeing of our community. Seeing this documentary’s journey end by directly helping these families is the greatest satisfaction we could have,” he said.

Highlighting rare diseases

The donation comes shortly after World Rare Disease Day, marked globally on 28th February, reinforcing the documentary’s aim of drawing attention to conditions that often receive little public visibility or research funding due to their low prevalence.

By sharing the personal stories of the families involved, the project aims to highlight both the emotional and financial challenges associated with rare diseases and the need for greater institutional support and research.

International recognition

“Cero Cuatro, del infierno al cielo” explores the difficult but hopeful reality of families living with rare conditions through personal testimonies and shared experiences.

Since its release, the documentary has received international recognition and has been nominated at several film festivals, including the Festival Internacional Cine de América in Hidalgo (Mexico), the Watoto International Film Festival in Zanzibar, and the Transhumant Festival 2025.
