The Canary Islands are set to experience light to moderate and occasional rain showers today, Friday, as the tail of Storm Olivier continues to impact the archipelago. The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow alert for rain, wind, and thunderstorms across the islands, warning of potential landslides due to the recent accumulation of rainfall.
Skies will be partly cloudy, becoming increasingly overcast throughout the afternoon, particularly in inland areas and on the eastern slopes of the islands with higher terrain. While temperatures will remain stable, moderate westerly winds are expected, with stronger gusts on exposed slopes.
Today’s forecast for each of the islands:
LANZAROTE:
The island will see partly cloudy skies, turning mostly cloudy in inland and eastern areas during the central hours of the day. Light, occasional showers are expected, especially during the morning and late afternoon.
Winds: Southwesterly, becoming lighter and shifting to the west by morning.
Temperatures: 16°C (min) / 22°C (max)
FUERTEVENTURA:
Similar to Lanzarote, Fuerteventura will experience partly to mostly cloudy skies inland and on the eastern side during midday hours. Light, scattered showers are forecast for both the morning and afternoon.
Winds: Moderate southwesterly, easing later in the day.
Temperatures: 16°C (min) / 22°C (max)
GRAN CANARIA:
Intermittent light to moderate rain is expected, particularly in the west and central areas early in the day, shifting to the east and northeast by afternoon and evening.
Winds: Moderate westerly winds, with strong intervals on the northwest and southeast slopes. Breezy conditions are expected along the northeast coast.
Temperatures: 17°C (min) / 23°C (max)
TENERIFE:
Showers will be more frequent in the west and north early in the day, moving to the east and northeast in the afternoon and evening. Skies will be partly cloudy throughout, with more persistent cloud cover in the eastern regions later on.
Winds: Moderate westerly winds, locally strong on the northwest and southeast slopes. Breezes likely on the northeast coast.
Temperatures: 17°C (min) / 23°C (max)
Sea Conditions:
Marine forecasts indicate southwesterly winds ranging from force 3 to 6, with light to moderate seas. A westerly or northwesterly swell of 2 to 3 metres is expected to ease to 1 to 2 metres. Isolated showers and thunderstorms may also affect coastal areas.
Authorities have urged residents and visitors to exercise caution, particularly in mountainous or landslide-prone zones, as further rainfall could trigger unstable conditions over the weekend.
