Jet2 flight LS1265 from Birmingham to Tenerife South, declared a medical emergency yesterday, Monday, after a passenger suffered a "serious" health issue, according to a report from the Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) on the social media platform X.
In response to the situation, they cleared the flight path for the aircraft's approach to Tenerife South Airport to ensure the passenger received medical attention as quickly as possible upon landing.
"We shortened the approach as much as possible while coordinating medical assistance on the ground with the airport," the controllers stated.
During an approach manoeuvre, the aircraft aligns with the runway and descends in a controlled manner. Pilots adjust speed and altitude to ensure a safe and precise landing, particularly in emergency situations requiring swift medical intervention.
No further details about the passenger’s condition have been released at this time.
This is the second incident like this in two days after another Jet2 flight from Bristol had a priority landing at Tenerife South Airport for the same reason on Sunday (23rd February).
