A new storm system is expected to affect the Canary Islands this week, although its exact impact remains uncertain and will depend on how the weather front develops over the next few days, according to meteorological models.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has updated its forecast, highlighting the possibility of locally very strong gusts of wind, particularly across the more mountainous islands, on Monday and Tuesday.
For Monday, the forecast indicates that Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will experience mostly clear skies, with some cloud cover in the north and west during the early morning and late evening hours. In the northern areas of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, skies are expected to be predominantly cloudy, although clearer intervals are likely around midday. Temperatures will see little change, although a slight drop in daytime highs is possible.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, AEMET predicts cloudy skies in the north of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, with weak to moderate rainfall likely. In other areas, cloud intervals are expected, with a low probability of light, occasional showers. Daytime temperatures are forecast to fall slightly to moderately, while nighttime temperatures will generally remain stable or experience a slight decrease. However, notable temperature drops are anticipated at higher altitudes, particularly in the central peaks of Tenerife, where light frosts could occur overnight.
Winds will blow moderately from the north, with intervals of stronger gusts expected over the mountainous islands, further emphasising the unsettled weather conditions forecast for the start of the week.
