New budget airline routes will open up opportunities for both tourists and residents

Low-cost airline, PLAY, has announced that they are opening up a new route between December 20th 2023 and April 10th of next year, with direct flights from Fuerteventura to the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, and will be the only one to offer direct flights between both destinations.

This is great news for tourism on the island as the Icelandic market is growing fast, and for residents who will have the first-ever direct flights available to visit the Nordic island famous for its glaciers and dramatic landscape with active volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, and lava fields.

PLAY already operates direct flights from Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which have been a great success, and plans to increase its capacity on these routes for the 2024 winter season.

The CEO of PLAY, Birgir Jonsson, said that bookings for the Fuerteventura-Reykjavik flights are now available on the company's website, and has expressed his satisfaction with the success of the company in the first quarter of 2023, since reservations have increased by 229% compared to the same period of 2022,and added that this new route is part of the company's long-term investment to build a network of routes and expansion in the international air market.

With the new route, tourism between the two regions will be increased as Fuerteventura is a Canary Island very popular with North European tourists, especially for its beaches, while Reykjavík is a vibrant, modern and touristy city that attracts visitors from all over the world with its northern lights and its famous hot spring baths.
