Mummified body of man found near TF-1 and Los Cristianos

The mummified body of a man has been discovered in a difficult-to-access area close to the TF-1 motorway by the exits for Los Cristianos in the South of Tenerife.

The alarm was raised shortly before 9:00am yesterday, Sunday, after a walker travelling along a path parallel to the motorway discovered the body and alerted the Arona Local Police.

The force's 092 control room immediately activated the relevant protocol, dispatching a patrol vehicle and a motorcycle officer to the area.

Access was complicated by the terrain and the absence of normal vehicle access to the location.

Officers approached via Calle Delta towards Calle Tonique, close to the end of Paseo Peatonal Gema and between the Hospital del Sur and the TF-1 motorway.

When officers reached the location, they confirmed the presence of the body of a man in an advanced state of mummification.

Area secured for investigation

A specialist investigation team from the Local Police was subsequently sent to the scene, along with patrols from the Guardia Civil.

Officers cordoned off and preserved the area while the necessary judicial procedures were initiated.

The condition of the remains suggests that the man may have been at the location for a considerable period before being discovered.

His identity has not yet been officially confirmed and the precise circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.

Initial examinations reportedly found no obvious signs of violence, although investigators are awaiting the results of the forensic examination and no definitive conclusion about the cause of death has been announced.

The judicial authorities were notified so that the formal examination and removal of the body could take place.

A post-mortem examination will be required to help establish the man's identity, cause of death and how long his remains had been at the location.

The discovery is separate from another incident in South Tenerife this weekend, in which the body of a man was found on the coast at Las Galletas in Arona.

Authorities have not indicated any connection between the two cases.
