Motorcyclist in critical condition after plunging down a ravine in Tenerife

A motorcyclist has been left in critical condition after veering off a road in Guia de Isora, in the south of Tenerife, and plunged down a Barranco (ravine) landing on the roof of a greenhouse of a banana plantation below.

According to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES), the incident took place on Saturday afternoon on the access road to Vera de Erques, at 12:10pm.

CECOES received an alert for help to rescue the 25-year-old motorcyclist who was in obvious discomfort after the crash and dispatched all the relevant emergency resources to the location given.

The fire brigade was the first at the site of the accident and proceeded to climb down to assess the injured man and try to rescue him. They provided initial assistance to the motorcyclist, immobilised him, and then stretchered him to the area where ambulances were waiting.

Medical stabilised the injured man and then transferred him, in critical condition, to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria where he was admitted for emergency treatment of various injuries sustained in the crash.

The Guardia Civil secured the area and is conducting the corresponding investigation to determine the cause of the accident, which is thought to be due to going too fast as no other vehicles were involved.
