Agents from the Prevention, Reaction and Intervention Unit (UPRI) arrested a man in Morro Jable, Fuerteventura, on Thursday night as he was suspected of a crime against public health. During the operation, officers seized 90 doses of crack and 34 heat-sealed packets of cocaine from inside his car.
They also confiscated €380 in cash and 26 bank cards issued in the names of different people. The origin of these cards is currently under investigation, as authorities suspect they may be linked to criminal activities.
The car contained a concealed compartment under the passenger seat, which could be accessed through a wired switch mechanism. The hidden stash was found with the assistance of the police dog unit, whose trained dogs played a crucial role in the operation's success.
Both the vehicle and the seized items have been handed over to the Guardia Civil in Morro Jable, where the investigation continues.
Police across the Canary Islands have successfully dismantled several similar drug operations in recent months. Raids in areas including the south of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Fuerteventura have led to multiple arrests and the seizure of large quantities of narcotics, cash, and assets.
In many cases, officers have uncovered sophisticated concealment methods inside vehicles and properties, often with the help of trained sniffer dogs and coordinated intelligence work. These operations form part of a wider crackdown aimed at disrupting drug trafficking routes through the islands and reducing the impact of the illegal trade on local communities and tourists.
