A man has been arrested in Costa Teguise after allegedly stealing from holidaymakers on a busy beach. Police say he was caught shortly after the theft and is now being linked to several similar cases.

The incident took place in mid-April at Playa del Jablillo, a popular spot with holidaymakers. A tourist alerted authorities after spotting a couple having their belongings taken from the beach.

Officers from the Guardia Civil were supported by the Teguise Local Police. They arrived quickly and began searching the area using the description provided. Within minutes, they found a man matching the details nearby.

When questioned, the suspect was unable to show identification and gave false personal details, while refusing to confirm where he was staying. During a search, officers found a mobile phone believed to belong to the victims.

Further checks suggested the man may be behind a string of similar thefts targeting tourists in the area. Police say the relatively low value of the stolen items would normally be treated as a less serious offence, but concerns he could fail to appear in court led to his arrest.

He was taken to the Guardia Civil station in Costa Teguise, where investigators linked him to five additional theft offences before he was brought before a court in Arrecife.

Authorities are reminding tourists and residents to stay alert on beaches and avoid leaving valuables unattended, particularly in busy resort areas.
