Major power cut causes flight cancellations and delays at Manchester Airport

All flights departing from Manchester Airport are experiencing cancellations and severe delays following a major power cut in the local area. The power outage, which affected the airport along with several other buildings, has now been resolved. However, the aftermath of the disruption is still being felt across the airport and is having a knock-on effect for passengers in the Canary Islands as their return flights are delayed or being diverted

Affected passengers who are already at the airport are being prioritised for rebooking on flights as soon as possible. Nonetheless, there may be instances where baggage does not accompany passengers on these flights.

"We will work with airlines to make sure passengers are reunited with any baggage that is not on their flight as soon as possible," the airport stated.

Travellers currently inside the airport face considerable delays and potential cancellations, with images revealing extensive queues forming this morning. The disruption has heavily impacted Terminals 1 and 2, while flights from Terminal 3 are also experiencing some delays.

Manchester Airport has issued advice for passengers scheduled to depart from Terminals 1 or 2, urging them not to come to the airport until further notice and to contact their airlines for the latest updates. Those flying from Terminal 3 should proceed to the airport as usual unless otherwise directed by their airline.

In addition, several incoming flights are being diverted to alternate airports. People planning to pick up passengers from Manchester Airport are advised to check flight statuses before heading to the airport. Airlines will arrange alternative travel for passengers affected by flight cancellations.

While the airport is trying to restore normal operations as quickly as possible, no specific timeline has been provided. Inbound flights are less affected, although some delays at Border Control have been reported.

"Manchester Airport was affected by a major power cut in the area earlier this morning. This has caused widespread disruption and flights from Terminals 1 and 2 are being cancelled," the airport confirmed in a statement. "Airlines will be in contact with passengers."

For the most current information, passengers are encouraged to stay in touch with their airlines and check for updates regularly.
