Authorities have issued seven fines for illegal camping and overnight stays in a protected coastal area in the south of Tenerife. Environmental officers from the Cabildo, working alongside the Policía Canaria and Local Police from Adeje, carried out a joint operation at La Caleta which is classified as an Area of Scientific Interest.

During the inspection, officers took down two tents and issued multiple infringement reports, as part of an ongoing effort to prevent unauthorised camping in protected natural spaces.

The coastal reserve, located in Costa Adeje, is recognised for its unique plant life and its importance as a nesting ground for various species of seabird. Authorities have stressed that preserving this fragile environment is essential.

Ongoing Enforcement in the South

Officials confirmed that similar operations are continuing across natural areas in the south of Tenerife, where illegal camping has become an increasing concern.

Visitors and residents are being reminded to follow key conservation rules, including staying on designated paths, avoiding camping or overnight stays, and not leaving rubbish behind.

Failure to comply can result in fines, as authorities step up enforcement to protect the island’s most sensitive ecosystems.
