The storm sweeping across the Canary Islands has delivered intense winds and significant rainfall, particularly in the Teide National Park, where gusts up to 131 kilometres per hour have been recorded at the Izaña weather station. The same station also reported the second-highest precipitation levels in all of Spain.

By 12:10pm today, Sunday, Izaña had accumulated 34.8 litres of rain per square metre, topped only by Menorca Airport with 40 litres. Other notable readings included 32.4 litres in Vega de San Mateo (Gran Canaria) and 29.4 litres in Llano de los Loros, La Laguna (Tenerife).

AEMET also highlighted major accumulations in Puntagorda (La Palma) of 26.4 l/m², Tejeda (Gran Canaria) 24.1 l/m², Tenerife North Airport 23.5 l/m², and Roque de los Muchachos (La Palma) 22.6 l/m².

Strong winds across the archipelago

Wind speeds across the islands dominated the national statistics, with several stations in the Canaries measuring some of Spain’s strongest gusts on Sunday.

– Arure: 85 km/h
– Pájara and La Palma Airport: 84 km/h

– El Pinar–La Dehesa: 77 km/h

AEMET has warned of persistent rain, strong winds reaching up to 90 km/h, and waves of up to five metres affecting the islands, prompting widespread safety alerts and local closures.

Temperatures remain unusually high

Despite these conditions, the Canary Islands also topped Spain’s maximum temperature list on Sunday, with Tenerife South Airport reaching 22.8°C. Maspalomas followed closely with 22.6°C, La Palma Airport with 21.8°C, and several other locations across Tenerife and Gran Canaria reporting highs of 20 to 21.4°C.
