The price of petrol and diesel has reached record highs in recent months but is now coming down in price. The drop started in September and has continued in October, with some service stations now charging less than 1.10 euros for a litre of 95 octane petrol, which you can find out where in the charts below.
However, the most expensive fuel in the Canary Islands is in El Hierro, where a litre of the same petrol costs drivers 1.63 euros, due to the small quantities the island consumes and extra cost to transport it, although this has also dropped from the almost 2 euros per litre they reached just before the summer.
Also, it must be remembered that from April 1st to December 31st 2022, in accordance with Royal Decree-Law 11/2022, a discount of at least 20 cents per litre will be taken off these advertised prices when you pay for it.
This discount was originally for three months until June 30th, but the government extended it until the end of the year to support consumers during the cost of living crisis.
The central government is funding 15 cents of every litre of fuel sold in the whole of Spain, and oil companies are subsidising the other 5 cents. Further discounts are available with loyalty cards and points systems with various fuel companies.
