Several airports across the Canary Islands have been forced to divert or cancel flights today, Wednesday, due to extreme winds and adverse weather conditions during their approach to land, according to AENA.
So far, 10 flights have been diverted from Gran Canaria Airport due to wind shear, two flights bound for Fuerteventura, originating from Munich and Frankfurt, were also redirected, and six flights to Tenerife North from Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Stavanger Sola (Norway), Copenhagen, and Fuerteventura, were also affected.
Additionally, two flights to Tenerife South Airport from Keflavik (Iceland) and Berlin had to be diverted.
At El Hierro Airport, four flights to and from Tenerife North have been cancelled due to the same issue.
Given the adverse weather conditions affecting all of the Canary Islands, particularly Tenerife and the western islands, which are under a yellow weather warning for strong winds, AENA advises passengers to check the status of their flights with their respective airlines before travelling.
