The Canary Islands are preparing for the effects of a DANA (Isolated High-Altitude Depression) currently located over the Azores, which is expected to bring unstable weather, including rain and occasional storms over the next few days.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued yellow weather warnings across the islands, prompting the regional government to declare a pre-alert for all islands. Accumulated rainfall is expected to reach 60 millimetres in 12 hours, a much less severe impact than the recent DANA in Valencia but significant enough to warrant precautions.
MONDAY:
The DANA's impact will intensify, bringing strong showers to all islands except Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Persistent rainfall is predicted for the north of Tenerife and the western islands, particularly on southern-facing slopes. La Palma may experience isolated thunderstorms, while other areas could see light precipitation. Temperatures may rise slightly in interior regions, and winds will pick up in mountainous areas, particularly in Tenerife during the early hours.
TUESDAY:
Tomorrow will see continued unsettled conditions, especially in the western islands. The morning is likely to bring persistent, heavy rain to southern slopes, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms. As the day progresses, skies may clear, and any remaining showers will weaken. Other areas are less likely to see significant rainfall, although moderate showers could occur in the morning. Temperatures will hold steady, and winds will ease by evening, shifting to an easterly direction.
WEDNESDAY:
The weather will begin to stabilise, with partly cloudy skies and a slight chance of isolated showers in higher altitudes. A light calima (dust haze) may affect Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and temperatures are expected to rise slightly, particularly in interior regions. Winds will generally be light but may be stronger at high altitudes, especially in the mountainous areas of Tenerife.
THURSDAY:
The forecast suggests clear skies with occasional clouds over the more mountainous islands and a minimal chance of isolated showers in areas at higher altitudes. The light haze may persist over Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Temperatures will remain stable or increase slightly, with light to moderate winds prevailing, though strong gusts are still possible on Tenerife’s summits.
