The Canary Islands Carrera por la Vida Foundation and Bar Parada Chío, with the support of the Guía de Isora Council and The Ritz-Carlton Abama, have announced the second edition of the charity cycling event "Pedaleando por la Vida" (Cycling for Life).
This initiative aims to highlight the social responsibility of the cycling community in the fight against breast cancer, raising awareness and funds for support and research projects led by the Carrera por la Vida Foundation.
The event was officially presented at The Ritz-Carlton Abama, which generously provided its facilities for the occasion. Attending the event were organisers, sponsors, and a large group of cyclists who will take part in the ride this Sunday, 23rd February to support those affected by breast cancer.
A Ride with a Purpose
Rafael Delgado, owner of Bar Parada Chío and the event organiser, emphasised that "Pedaleando por la Vida is more than just a cycling competition. Every kilometre pedalled brings us closer to helping those suffering from breast cancer." He also expressed gratitude to the businesses supporting the initiative, contributing to making this sporting event a day of solidarity.
The ride will cover a 66-kilometre route, featuring three timed mountain passes, passing through the municipalities of Guía de Isora, Santiago del Teide, and Adeje.
Institutional and Community Support
Oliver Afonso, Sports Councillor for Guía de Isora, praised Rafael Delgado’s dedication and assured full municipal support for the logistics and development of the event. He highlighted that "this event is unique in its commitment and social responsibility towards those affected by breast cancer."
Mayor Ana Dorta also applauded the efforts of volunteers and sponsors, recognising their role in organising the second edition of Pedaleando por la Vida. She described the initiative as "an outstanding example of community solidarity and voluntary participation in causes that impact and matter to society as a whole."
Registrations Open and Growing Participation
Registrations for the event close today, Tuesday, 18th February, with organisers aiming to surpass last year’s participation, which saw 280 cyclists across different age and gender categories.
Brigitte Gypen, President of the Carrera por la Vida Foundation, extended her gratitude to all supporters, including the Government of the Canary Islands and Tenerife Cabildo, as well as the cyclists themselves. She stressed that "every pedal stroke raises awareness about the importance of self-examinations and gynaecological check-ups as key measures for early detection and reducing the impact of the disease."
