As July draws to a close, the Canary Islands are experiencing a slight dip in temperatures thanks to the retreat of the African air mass that had been dominating the archipelago in recent days.
According to AEMET spokesperson, Rubén del Campo, the trade winds will bring clouds to the northern parts of the islands, possibly accompanied by light drizzle in more mountainous areas, while the southern zones are expected to remain clearer and sunnier.
However, the cooler respite will be short-lived. As August begins, temperatures across the islands are set to rise again, particularly in the southern inland areas of the islands and in Gran Canaria, where they could climb above 35°C.
For residents and visitors in the Canary Islands, the upcoming days offer a brief window of milder weather before another wave of heat arrives.
Tourists heading to the north of the islands should be prepared for some cloud cover and the possibility of light rain in elevated areas, while the south remains a reliable option for sunny beach days.
As always during periods of high temperatures, locals and holidaymakers alike are advised to stay hydrated, avoid peak sunshine hours, and take precautions against heat-related health risks.
Stay tuned to Canarian Weekly for updates and forecasts as August brings the full force of summer back to the islands.
