The Government of the Canary Islands will activate a regional weather alert tonight due to the expected impact of Storm Olivier, which has been classified as a “high-impact weather system”.
The alert was announced today (Tuesday) by the Canary Islands emergency services (112), with adverse conditions expected to affect the entire archipelago.
According to a statement issued yesterday (Monday) by the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Storm Olivier is forecast to become isolated over the Canary Islands, increasing the likelihood of heavy rainfall and unstable weather across the region.
The most intense effects are expected during the early hours of Wednesday, with moderate to heavy downpours likely to hit Tenerife and Gran Canaria first. As the storm progresses, rain is expected to spread to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
Later in the day, a frontal system associated with Olivier is set to move from west to east, bringing further intense, and at times very intense, rainfall, particularly across the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Authorities are urging residents to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions as the storm develops.
