Canary Islands Government ends pre-alerts for rain and snow

The Government of the Canary Islands has lifted pre-alerts for rain across the archipelago and for snow in La Palma and Tenerife as of today, Wednesday. This decision follows the guidance of the Specific Emergency Plan for the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA) and is based on forecasts from AEMET and other sources.

Despite the end of the pre-alert, regional authorities have warned that rain is still expected over the next few days, although with reduced intensity. Showers are likely on Wednesday evening and may continue over the next few days, primarily in the north of the islands, and on the eastern slopes of the higher-altitude islands.

False Weather Alert Circulating

The Canary Islands Government has also alerted the public to a false message being circulated on social media which warns of a 'severe storm expected in your region', and encourages users to download an application. The government has confirmed that this is fake and advises against downloading or clicking on any associated files.

No Incidents Reported

The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) has reported that its operations remained normal overnight last night, with no incidents related to the adverse weather conditions.

While the worst of the weather appears to have passed, residents and visitors are still advised to remain cautious, particularly in areas where rain could lead to localised disruptions.
