The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General of Emergencies, has declared a pre-alert status for adverse coastal conditions across the archipelago starting from midnight tonight, Saturday 15th February.
This decision has been made based on data provided by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and other sources, in accordance with the Canary Islands’ Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
The pre-alert will affect the northern and western coasts of El Hierro, La Palma, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote, as well as the northern coasts of La Gomera, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria.
Expected Weather Conditions
Sea conditions will vary, with slight to moderate waves accompanied by a north-westerly swell. Wave heights are expected to reach 2 to 3 metres on Saturday and Monday, increasing to 3 to 4 metres on Sunday.
Winds will range from force 3 to 4 (12–28 km/h), with gusts reaching force 5 (29–38 km/h) in some areas. The wind direction will shift over the weekend, starting from the northwest on Saturday, turning north and northeast on Sunday, and eventually veering east to southwest on Monday.

Authorities advise caution for residents and visitors, particularly those near coastal areas, and urge the public to stay informed about weather updates. The pre-alert is expected to remain in place until conditions improve on Monday.
