Fashion from the Canary Islands took centre stage in Madrid this weekend as designers from across the archipelago launched their first-ever Shopping Weekend on 30th May, just in time for Canary Islands Day.
The event, held in the heart of the Spanish capital, showcased 13 fashion brands from La Palma alongside designers from Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and, for the first time, El Hierro.
Part of the Canarias Islas de Moda initiative, an effort backed by the Canarian Government, the event aims to give local designers a national platform and open doors to new markets in the mainland.
But the pop-up wasn’t just about shopping. With live music, appearances by influencers and celebrities, plus strong media interest, the temporary showroom was crafted to make an impact and make Canarian fashion impossible to ignore.
Among the standout labels were Alex Menorca, Atelier El Tesoro, Diazar, Mararte and Rayco Plata. Designers from El Hierro made their debut with fresh names like Yuriy and DRMA, attracting attention.
“This kind of event helps people recognise the talent and creativity coming out of the Canary Islands,” said Miriam Perestelo, responsible for La Palma’s economic promotion. “Madrid opens the door to new customers and markets.”
The event marks a bold step in elevating the islands’ fashion scene, bringing its distinctive style to Spain’s style-savvy capital.
