Representatives from the Circle of Entrepreneurs and Professionals of Southern Tenerife (CEST) had a meeting with the San Miguel de Abona City Council yesterday, following letters sent by the association expressing concerns about the state and progress of the Las Chafiras interchange works.
During this meeting, the Mayor of San Miguel, Arturo Gonzalez, and the Councillor for Works and Infrastructure, Rafael Baute, provided the CEST representatives with updates on the current situation and the anticipated completion timelines.
In recent weeks, the president of CEST, Javier Cabrera, voiced his concern regarding the importance of following the phases of the project to prevent traffic jams. "We understand the importance of finishing the interchange as soon as possible, but our concern is that rushing all at once and altering the planned order may lead to unforeseen consequences that complicate the progress of the project and could cause traffic jams on the main roads in southern Tenerife," he said.
"The Council has informed us that the Oroteanda interchange from the south is expected to be open in November, and they assure that the Chafiras interchange from the south, which is currently closed, will be reinstated in two weeks. These two measures would help normalize traffic, and there should be no congestion on the lanes," explained the president of CEST. Additionally, he highlighted the nighttime schedule for carrying out the most delicate tasks, which minimizes the impact on traffic flow on these roads at peak times.
All at the meeting agreed on the need for the Tenerife Cabildo to give top priority to the Golf del Sur roundabout. "It is a crucial project for proper mobility in the area due to its significant capacity to organize the traffic accessing industrial areas and the motorway. Therefore, we believe it should be in the best possible condition as soon as possible," emphasized CEST.
