A 37-year-old British man has died following a violent fight in the popular nightlife area of Las Veronicas in Playa de las Américas, southern Tenerife, during the early hours of this morning (Thursday).

According to reports from Televisión Canaria, the incident involved two British nationals, the victim and a 23-year-old man who has since been arrested as the suspected attacker.

Security staff detained suspect

Reports indicate that uniformed security staff employed by the nightclubs intervened following the fight and managed to restrain the alleged aggressor until officers from the National Police arrived at the scene at around 1:00am.

Emergency services attempted to resuscitate the victim using advanced CPR manoeuvres, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities also ordered the temporary closure of all venues in the surrounding area while emergency crews and police carried out their work.

Investigation underway

The National Police have now launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Further details about how the fight began or the cause of death have not yet been officially confirmed.

The death has once again drawn attention to security concerns in the Veronicas area, known for its bars, clubs, and late-night venues.

Nightclub owners trying to ‘clean up’ the area

In the last few months, venue owners have joined forces to independently employ a uniformed security company to patrol the Veronicas ‘strip’, in an attempt to clean up the image of the area and make it safer for the thousands of holidaymakers who flock there every year.

In collaboration with the Local Police, they have successfully stopped street sellers of gas canisters and balloons, have driven out pickpockets, and targeted drug dealers, despite the fact that National Police raids have still targeted them in the last few weeks.

Unfortunately, this type of incident between tourists does not help their plight and efforts to shed a positive light on what is the biggest nightlife area for youngsters in the whole of the Canary Islands.
