Birmingham Airport evacuated and all flights grounded due to suspicious vehicle

Birmingham Airport is currently undergoing a full evacuation following reports of a suspicious vehicle on-site, according to West Midlands Police. The police confirmed that this action is a "precautionary measure" to safeguard passengers and staff.

An airport spokesperson advised passengers not to come to the airport as operations have been severely impacted. Social media posts from affected travellers describe chaos and confusion, with many stuck on grounded planes. One user, @harmancheeta, expressed distress, saying they felt claustrophobic and were desperate to get off the plane, while others like @SpandleRandle shared concerns for family members also stranded on planes without updates.

Ian Pugh, another witness, shared photos of large crowds exiting the airport, describing the scene as initially confusing but quickly escalating as the number of evacuees grew.

National Express has rerouted its services to Birmingham International Rail Station, bypassing the airport due to the incident. Passengers with scheduled flights are urged to check with their airlines and monitor Birmingham Airport's website and social media channels for updates.

This is the second evacuation incident at the airport in recent months, with a smaller area of the arrivals zone briefly cleared in September.
