Baggage handlers strike in Spain will affect Ryanair passengers from Friday

The Aero sector of the USO union has called a strike for baggage handlers that make up the company Azul Handling, which are Ryanair DAC and Ihandling AAA, at 22 Spanish airports, five of which are in the Canary Islands, starting tomorrow (October 28th) until January 2023.

In a statement, the union explained that the reason for the strike is the reactivation of the negotiations of a new agreement for baggage handlers which has been "paralyzed since 2020", and needs to address matters such as occupational risk prevention and shift work.

Ryanair say that they already clarified in September that the threat of a strike by ground handling services is related to their partner, Azul Handling, and not by them.

Workers are called to support 24-hour strikes from Friday October 28th to Tuesday November 1st and partial work stoppages every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in November from 4:00am to 7:00am, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, and from 9:00pm to 11:00pm.

The following airports will also be affected in the rest of Spain: Madrid, Malaga, Barcelona, Alicante, Seville, Mallorca, Ibiza, Valencia, Girona, Santiago de Compostela, Reus, Jerez, Santander, Zaragoza, Mahón, Almería, Valladolid, and Murcia.

They have also demanded the regularization of the procedure for publishing shifts, the performance of regular daily shifts for full-time workers, as well as paid leave to attend medical appointments and summons for judicial proceedings, compute the time of attendance as effective work time, or the creation of a commission to start the partial retirement of workers through relief contracts, among other issues.
