The Arona Council and the Círculo de Empresarios y Profesionales del Sur de Tenerife (CEST) have demanded that the expansion of the TF-1 motorway in the south of Tenerife, prioritize the section between Guaza and Los Cristianos, in the municipality of Arona.
This was stated by the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, and the president of the CEST, Roberto Ucelay, yesterday (Monday) at a meeting held in the southern City Hall.
They also stated that it is essential to improve access to Guaza and Los Cristianos from the motorway, as well as direct access to Hospital del Sur from the TF-1, and discussed other issues such as housing and employment in the area.
Both Arona and CEST agree on the need to prioritize these three axes as an important part of the solution to the motorway's traffic problems, and the need for a ‘reversible two-way lane’ to ease congestion in either direction depending on the time of day.
In the case of the Hospital del Sur, a direct lane would prevent traffic jams forming at the entrance and exit of the motorway, in addition to facilitating emergencies and guaranteeing traffic flow, hence being an important infrastructure for the region.
The existing proposal for a tunnel through Los Cristianos for Avenida Chayofita, to link traffic from the Port of Los Cristianos directly with the TF-1, as well as the future Transport Interchange, are two that the mayor and CEST believe are necessary for the modernization and future of the municipality.
OTHER ISSUES:
Other issues discussed at the meeting were the need to continue investing in employment and training, and public housing, in which the government group has taken "important steps during this term", as the mayor himself pointed out, such as the agreement to transfer a plot in La Estrella with the Canary Islands Housing Institute, for the construction of public housing on a rental basis.
