The Official State Boletin (BOE) has published a modification regarding health controls at points of entry to Spain and, as of now, any unvaccinated travellers from an EU country can enter the country, including the Canary Islands with a negative test result from an Antigen test taken in the last 24 hours, instead of a more expensive PCR test.
The test must be from a health centre as self-diagnostic ones are not sufficient, but this has been agreed due to the wide availability of rapid antigen tests that are included in the common list agreed by the Health Security Committee.
Spain has agreed to be in tune with the recommendation of this body, and the rest of the European Union member countries, and have updated the Resolution of June 4, 2021, to allow freer mobility among member states, as the focus is now on the health status of the individual and not the country they are travelling from.
This means that residents of EU countries can now use the Covid Certificate to prove:
- Vaccination status
- or a negative PCR test result in the last 72 hours
- or a negative Antigen test result in the last 24 hours
- or recovery from Covid.
Any of these four options, as long as within the correct time scale, can be used for travel within the EU, which includes residents of Ireland coming to Spain, but unfortunately still not from the UK.
