The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) have announced that the arrival of more Saharan dust in the Canary Islands will be "remarkable" and more intense than experienced in the last couple of weeks. Today, Friday, the presence of haze is also expected, being more noticeable in the eastern islands, and will last throughout the weekend.
Initial forecasts that the haze would be blown away by strong winds is not being fulfilled, and in fact, there is an intensification of the wind inland in Africa which will raise more dust and cross over to the islands.
This, added to the fact that there are no changes in the atmospheric circulation around the Canary Islands, translates into a dry period with more haze this weekend, and it is expected to be more intense in the eastern islands, i.e. in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria, according to Aemet.
