The Canary Islands Government has announced the suspension of all face-to-face classes across the archipelago tomorrow (Thursday, 13th November), due to the severe weather conditions expected as Storm Claudia passes through the region.

The Ministry of Education made the decision after advice from Emergency and Civil Protection officials to reduce travel and avoid problems caused by the worsening weather. All educational activities will move online for the day, and schools will remain closed.

In cases where remote learning is not possible, classes will be cancelled entirely. Families and schools will be kept informed through official channels, such as school websites, internal communications, and the Education Department’s verified social media accounts.

According to the Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Storm Claudia is expected to bring persistent rainfall, occasional heavy downpours, strong south-westerly winds, and rough seas, particularly affecting the western islands. Weather alerts have been extended and raised to orange level for heavy rain across much of the Canary Islands for Wednesday and Thursday.

Officials have stressed that the measure is temporary and preventive, introduced to protect students and staff during this period of multi-alert conditions affecting all islands. The situation will be reviewed on Thursday to decide whether classes can resume as normal in the coming days.

The Government has also warned of a high risk of flash flooding in ravines and water accumulation in low-lying areas, urging the public to remain cautious and follow updates only from official sources.
