After a brief reprieve from recent bouts of extreme heat, the Canary Islands are once again facing yellow weather warnings, this time due to strong winds forecast across most of the archipelago. AEMET issued the alerts yesterday Wednesday, which are in effect until at least 6:00pm today, Thursday, but could easily be extended.

Fuerteventura is the only island not currently under warning, though this could change if conditions shift.

Travel and Safety Advice

Tourists and residents are urged to exercise caution, especially in exposed or elevated areas. Strong winds may affect hiking routes, road safety, ferry operations, and beach conditions. Those planning outdoor activities should check with local authorities and weather updates before proceeding.

Breakdown of Warnings for Each Island:

TENERIFE
The yellow alert is in place from midnight until 6:00pm Thursday, affecting the metropolitan area and the eastern, southern, and western slopes. Wind gusts of up to 80 km/h are forecast, particularly in the southern part of the metropolitan zone and along the southeast and western coasts.

GRAN CANARIA
Also under yellow alert from midnight to 6:00pm Thursday, with strong winds expected across the highlands and the eastern, southern, and western slopes. Gusts could reach up to 80 km/h, especially in the southeast, far west, and mountainous regions.

LA PALMA
The warning covers the highlands and the eastern side of the island, where gusts may peak at 70 km/h. The most affected areas include El Paso and the southeast and northwest slopes.

EL HIERRO
