AEMET increases level of weather warnings to red and orange in the Canary Islands

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has upgraded the warnings for extreme heat that it had issued for tomorrow, Wednesday, so that now most of Gran Canaria has a red warning for extreme risk, and the rest of the islands have an orange warning for temperatures around 37 degrees.

Their latest forecasts for Wednesday show that thermometers will reach 41°C in the south, east, and west of Gran Canaria, which is why a red level warning has been activated and will go above that in sheltered areas inland.

The north of Gran Canaria will remain under a yellow warning as the trade winds are keeping temperatures lower with a maximum of up to 36°C.

An orange warning for temperatures in excess of 37°C has been activated in all of Lanzarote, all of Fuerteventura, all of La Gomera, all of El Hierro, the summit of La Palma, and the southern, eastern, and western slopes of Tenerife

Like the north of Gran Canaria, the north of Tenerife, and the east and west slopes of La Palma are under a yellow warning.

In addition, there are still active yellow warnings for coastal phenomena in all the waters of La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera, and the southern, eastern and western slopes of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. People are advised to observe the red flags on relevant bathing areas and avoid going into the water.
