The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued an update today, Wednesday (12th March), extending yellow weather warnings across the Canary Islands due to adverse coastal conditions.
Additionally, La Palma will have a separate yellow warning from 5:00pm for strong gusts of wind that could reach up to 70 kilometres per hour, particularly in high-altitude areas and the municipality of El Paso.
Among the significant weather events expected to impact the archipelago, AEMET has highlighted the potential for locally strong gusts of wind in the central peaks and Dorsal Ridge of Tenerife, as well as in the highlands of El Hierro, particularly in the afternoon.
Coastal Phenomena Warning
Tomorrow, Thursday, north-westerly combined seas are expected to affect Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura from 6:00am onwards, with waves potentially reaching up to five metres in height.
In the province of Las Palmas, particularly in Gran Canaria, winds ranging between 50 and 61 kilometres per hour are also expected.
Weather Forecast for the Canary Islands
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will experience a mix of cloudy spells and clear skies, particularly tomorrow afternoon. There is also a chance of light rain during the early morning and late evening.
On the more mountainous islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, cloudy skies will dominate the western slopes, with occasional light rain expected during the latter half of the day. Other areas will generally see clearer skies.
Minimum temperatures are forecast to remain stable or decrease slightly, while maximum temperatures are expected to rise.
