The Spanish Met Office (Aemet) has confirmed that a municipality in Tenerife has recorded the highest rainfall in the whole of Spain today, Tuesday.
San Juan de la Rambla, in the north of the island, registered a remarkable 43.6 litres of rain per square metre by 11:00am, significantly surpassing precipitation levels in other parts of the country.
The intensity of the rainfall prompted the Government of the Canary Islands to activate a pre-alert status, particularly affecting northern areas and mid-altitude zones of Tenerife, due to the increased risk of incidents such as flooding and landslides causing road hazards.
Other regions of Spain recorded far lower precipitation figures: Benasque in Huesca reported 10.2 litres per square metre, the Huesca Airport recorded 9.0 litres, and Seira, also in Huesca, measured 7.8 litres. All these figures fall well short of those seen in San Juan de la Rambla.
Additionally, the meteorological station at Izaña, also located in Tenerife, registered 6.0 litres per square metre, placing it among the top ten rainfall readings nationwide during this period.
In light of the current weather conditions, authorities are advising the public to exercise caution, particularly when travelling in these municipalities by road or in areas prone to flooding, while the pre-alert remains in force.
