According to the latest figures from the Tourist Expenditure Survey conducted by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), the Canary Islands continue to attract repeat visitors as a remarkable 40.3% of international visitors who came to the archipelago in the first quarter of 2024 had previously visited at least five times. Only 24.4% of these tourists were making their first visit to the islands.
The trend is even more pronounced on Lanzarote, where repeat visitors make up 44.2% of the 735,000 tourists recorded between January and March 2024.
The most loyal visitors come from Nordic countries, with an impressive 52.9% of repeat tourists. This is followed by British holidaymakers at 50.7%, Irish at 45.4%, and Germans at 38%. National visitors from Spain account for 37% of repeat guests, while Belgians, Swiss, Italians, and Dutch also show significant repeat rates, at 33.8%, 31%, 28%, and 25.7%, respectively.
This loyalty emphasises the Canary Islands' enduring appeal and highlights the region's strong position as a preferred destination for international travellers due to a year-round warm climate and easy access for winter sun.
