A 30-year-old man has died following a brutal assault during the Santa Cruz Carnival in Tenerife. The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) on Avenida Marítima, near Avenida Francisco La Roche, where a violent fight broke out around 5:00am.
The victim, who sustained traumatic brain injuries, was stabilised, intubated, and transported in a specialised medical ambulance to the Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria (HUNSC), but despite the efforts of emergency medical staff, he suffered a cardiac arrest during the journey and could not be revived.
Officers from the National Police Intervention Unit (UIP), responsible for monitoring the Carnival’s Cuadrilátero area, were the first to respond to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the man with severe head injuries. Emergency services, including the Advanced Command Post (PMA), a Rapid Intervention Vehicle (VIR), and the Cruz Roja Española's medicalised ambulance, were quickly mobilised.
Medical personnel provided first aid at the Fire station at the Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena, and after stabilising the victim, he was rushed to the hospital, but tragically, he did not survive.
The local authorities have confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the assault. A 25-year-old man was taken into custody by the National Police, who are conducting the necessary legal procedures to bring the alleged perpetrator before the court.
The Carnival festivities, usually a time of celebration, have been overshadowed by this violent incident. Santa Cruz Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, commented on the situation confirming the arrest of the suspected attackers and expressing his condolences to the victim’s family.
Police investigations are ongoing, with the aim of clarifying the circumstances surrounding the assault. Further updates are expected as the judicial process unfolds.
