28€ eco-tax for tourists to visit Masca Valley in Tenerife

The Tenerife Cabildo has implemented the new access fees for visiting the Masca ravine, a popular destination located in the Teno Natural Park, starting this Friday. The decision, and amounts announced by the President, Rosa Dávila, are aimed at enhancing visitor safety and reducing the frequency of emergency evacuations and rescues in the area.

The daily limit of visitors is set at just 275 people allowed to visit Masca, which must be booked in advance at certain time slots in limited group sizes. This means visitor numbers will be restricted to 100,375 people a year, a considerably lower number than now.

The rates were also shared by the president of the Cabildo on X (formerly Twitter) as follows:

Residents of Tenerife: Free access (0€)

Residents of the Canary Islands: 3€

Non-residents/Tourists: €28€

These prices are applicable by booking online or through licenced active tourism companies and do not include IGIC (equivalent to VAT).

Purpose of the Eco-Tax:

The introduction of this "eco-tax" is part of the Cabildo's strategy to manage the environmental impact and improve the safety infrastructure for visitors at Masca. Dávila emphasised that the funds collected will be used to enhance security measures, ensuring a safer experience for all visitors and minimising the need for emergency interventions.

The Masca Ravine, known for its stunning natural beauty and challenging hiking trails, attracts numerous visitors each year. The new fees aim to balance tourism with sustainability, ensuring that the area remains preserved and safe for future generations.
