Yellow warning for big waves and adverse sea conditions this weekend

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated the yellow warning for ‘coastal phenomena’ in the Canary Islands starting on Saturday. The strong waves will affect Gran Canaria, Tenerife and the western islands of La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.

The warning comes into effect from midday on Saturday, July 31st, and is expected to finish at the end of the same day, but could easily be extended into Sunday.

Bathers are being warned of big waves, strong currents, and large swells and are reminded to look out for the colour of the flag on the beach before going into the water.

Strong winds and clouds are still expected over the weekend even though temperatures will stay at a humid 26 or 27°C but no rain is expected.
