Son saves father's life with CPR guided over the phone in Lanzarote

A young man helped save his father's life in Lanzarote after being talked through CPR over the phone while an ambulance raced to their home. The emergency happened at around 7.00am in Costa Teguise when the man suffered a seizure and then began having difficulty breathing.

His family quickly realised he had no pulse and called the emergency services. With every minute crucial, a coordinating nurse from the emergency call centre stayed on the phone and explained exactly what they needed to do.

Son started with chest compressions

The man's son placed his father on a firm surface and immediately began chest compressions.

Because several family members were there, the nurse advised them to take turns every two or three minutes so they could maintain effective CPR without becoming exhausted.

They continued following the instructions until the medical team arrived.

That immediate response meant CPR was already under way during the vital first few minutes after the cardiac arrest.

Paramedics restart his heart

When the medical ambulance reached the property, paramedics took over the resuscitation attempt.

They continued advanced CPR and used a defibrillator to try to restart the man's heart.

Two shocks were delivered before his circulation was successfully restored.

Once his condition had been stabilised, he was taken by ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife, where he was admitted in a stable but serious condition.

Quick action helped save his life

Emergency officials highlighted the family's rapid response as a crucial part of the successful resuscitation.

Starting CPR immediately after cardiac arrest helps keep blood and oxygen circulating until professional medical help arrives.

In this case, the family did not have to wait for the ambulance before taking action. They were able to begin chest compressions straight away by following the nurse's instructions over the telephone.

The incident is a powerful example of why calling 112 immediately and following the operator's instructions can make a life-saving difference in a medical emergency.
