Except for some short heat waves, the weather this summer has not been as is usually expected in the Canary Islands. After last weekend when bad sea conditions prevailed, there has been cloud across the islands so far this week, and today (Thursday) it is not expected to be much better with rains forecast by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
By province, in the north of the western islands (Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro) expect cloudy skies at the start of the day which will clear during the afternoon, with light rains in inland areas, especially in the northeast at the end of the day, however, there are scattered showers forecast early in the morning. In the rest of the areas it will be slightly cloudy or clear with some clouds to the west.
Temperatures are expected to increase slightly, particularly in the south of the islands, with a muggy maximum of 29 degrees in Tenerife and a minimum of 18 degrees in El Hierro.
Today’s winds will be from the northeast, with strong gusts in low areas of the southeast slope and in the northwest especially in the afternoon. Later in the day it is expected to be stronger on the east slope, but only breezes are forecast on the west and south coasts.
Regarding the province of Las Palmas (Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura), cloudy skies in the north will dominate this morning with some clearings in the afternoon in the interior of the islands. Weak and occasional rains are forecast in the north, especially in the middle of the afternoon and towards the end of the day, while in the rest of the areas it will be little cloudy or clear, according to Aemet. In the case of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, light cloud in the south and southeast especially during the afternoon.
As for temperatures, they will also rise slightly, with a maximum of 25 degrees in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Winds will once again be from the northeast, being stronger on peaks during the first half of the day, and in low areas of the southeast and west slopes during the second half of the day. Only light breezes are forecast on the southwest coasts of these islands.
