Christmas Eve is one of the most important traditions and celebrations in Spain, as it is celebrated with family and friends in the same way as we celebrate Christmas Day in the UK, whereas we tend to go out for a night of partying. Due to this the weather forecast becomes more important so people know what to wear on one of the biggest days of the year.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) their forecast foresees drizzle during the day and heavier rain tonight in various parts of the archipelago.
More specifically, in the eastern islands (Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria) there will be only be light cloud,while in the western islands (Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro) there will be cloudy skies with light showers during the day, however, later tonight they are forecasting some downpours.
The weather forecast for each of the islands for Christmas Eve:
TENERIFE:
Light cloud in general, with some cloudy intervals in the north and east of the island during the day. Temperatures remain unchanged, or with slight drops in inland areas. Variable winds from the west-southwest, with breezes, on coasts. Showers expected in the north and east with heavier rain tonight.
Temperatures: Minimum 17°C and maximum 23°C.
GRAN CANARIA:
Cloud expected throughout the island, but especially in the north and east during the afternoon. Winds are from the west-southwest, light inland, moderate in the peaks, and breezes on south coasts. Chance of rain at altitude.
Temperatures: Minimum 18°C and maximum 23°C.
LANZAROTE:
Mostly clear skies with some light cloud during the day, with some cloudy intervals in the afternoon.Temperatures unchanged or slightly decreasing. Light variable wind with breezes. No rain expected.
Temperatures: Minimum 15°C and maximum 23°C.
FUERTEVENTURA:
Light cloud in general across the island, with some cloudy intervals in the afternoon, and a slight haze at altitude is not ruled out. Temperatures unchanged or slightly decreasing, with light variable wind with breezes on coasts, and rain forecast tonight.
Temperatures: Minimum 16°C and maximum 23°C.
LA PALMA:
Cloudy with weak to moderate rainfall during the day, especially on the north slope, and downpours expected tonight. Variable wind from the west inland, getting stronger at the summits with strong gusts, and breezes on coasts.
Temperatures: Minimum 16°C and maximum 21°C.
LA GOMERA:
Light cloud during the morning getting more overcast this afternoon. Generally weak rainfall is not ruled out during the second half of the day. Variable light wind, with breezes on the coasts. In high areas, wind from the west-southwest, weak inland and moderate at peaks.
Temperatures: Minimum 17°C and maximum 23°C.
EL HIERRO:
Cloudy throughout the day with light showers.Temperatures with little change. Light variable wind, with breezes on the coasts. At peaks, moderate winds from the west-southwest.
Temperatures: Minimum 13°C and maximum 18°C.
