TSJC does it again: Nightlife venues must close earlier again from tonight

The Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has suspended the agreement of the Canary Islands Government with the Nightlife Associations decreed on September 16th, which authorized the extension of the opening hours for nightlife establishments, i.e. night clubs, discos, and ‘karaoke’ bars, which we know as fun pubs.

In the order issued by the court, it states that the Canary Islands Government has three working days to appeal their decision and present their reasons why. The agreement that has been suspended entered into force on September 18th for a limited period until October 31st.

However, it is not part of the Government’s ‘bill’ that protects the health measures; this was a separate request by the nightlife associations representing the sector, which the Government agreed to.

In it, it was stated that the nightclubs, discos, and karaoke bars (this refers to the type of licence, NOT every bar that does karaoke) that wanted to take advantage of this voluntary extension, had to prove that their workers and clients had a Covid certificate showing full vaccination, or a current negative test result (doesn’t include self-diagnostic tests), or have recovered from the virus, and could stay open until 4am in Levels 1 and 2, and 3am in Level 3.

However, with the suspension of this agreement by the TSJC, the previous regulation for the closing time of all hospitality and nightlife venues is back in force immediately from tonight, as follows:

Level 1: 3am (Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro)
Level 2: 2am (Tenerife, Gran Canaria)
Level 3: 1am (Fuerteventura)
Level 4: 1am
