The El Paso Local Police force has unanimously agreed to donate their overtime pay that they’ve accrued during the eruption in La Palma, to those people affected by it. The head of the Local Police, Juan Antonio Martín, said: "It is our small contribution to those people who have lost almost everything.”
The mayor of El Paso, Sergio Rodríguez, officially thanked all the officers who had made this decision, saying “we appreciate this gesture and the commitment and loyalty of the complete force supporting the victims of the volcano, as well as their absolute dedication to the task in hand which has led them to carry out duties that go above and beyond those stipulated in their contracts”.
He continued by thanking the rest of the local police forces on the island that continue to work outside of their hours and on their days off, in their respective municipalities, voluntarily collaborating during this emergency, even spending nights in checkpoints in different areas of the Aridane Valley.
